1.31 Integrals associated with conics

For positive constants aa and bb, consider the curves:

(i) parabola y2=ax+by^{2}=ax+b;

(ii) circle x2+y2=a2x^{2}+y^{2}=a^{2};

(iii) hyperbola x2-y2=a2x^{2}-y^{2}=a^{2}.

We consider the area that lies above the xx-axis, below the curve and between x=0x=0 and x=tx=t; namely

0ty(x)dx.\int_{0}^{t}y(x)dx.
