Get support

Your first point of contact is ASK, which provides information online as well as a team you can contact directly. There are lots of University services to support you, and you are also a member of the Lancaster University Students' Union.

ASK (Advice, Support and Knowledge) Service

ASK is your place to go for support and information on a wide range of personal and student issues.

You can use the ASK section of your Portal to find online information about your programme, college and the services available to you.

If at any point you wish to discuss changes to your course, need advice about who to contact or general guidance on University life, you can also contact the ASK team directly. Staff can offer you guidance on a variety of queries and make appointments with specialist staff where needed.

Academic skills

At Lancaster there are many opportunities to develop your academic skills. The main way you will do this is through engaging actively with your course and learning the academic skills specific to your area of study. You can also explore the interactive resources on the ASK Portal for general advice and further practice.

Careers

Our dedicated Careers specialists provide a wide range of online services and resources which include:

  • Job opportunities for students advertised through the Employment and Recruitment Service and for graduates advertised through CareersConnect
  • One-to-one tailored information, advice and guidance online. Register with CareersConnect and book your appointments here
  • Book a practice interview with one of our Careers team for a job you are applying for through CareersConnect
  • Skills workshops via webinar delivered by employers – more details and booking via CareersConnect
  • Completing the Lancaster Award which recognises your achievements outside your study.

College

As a postgraduate student at Lancaster, you are a member of Graduate College. Distance learners are exempt from paying the college membership fee, but should you visit the University campus, you are very welcome to make use of the College facilities. You may also sometimes find college-organised events that enable remote access. Find out more about Graduate College on its website, which features links to its social media profiles.

Lancaster University Students' Union

Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU) is here for you. The Union is an independent organisation that represents the student body. LUSU provides free and confidential advice on a number of issues, including academic advice, and welfare support. You can visit the LUSU Advice Servicefor more information. You also have the right to opt-out of the union.

We have lots of information available on the ASK Portal as well as people who can guide you on money matters such as support available and managing your finances.

Student wellbeing at Lancaster means there is always someone to talk to.
