Sustainability strategy
Positive change: carbon net-zero from energy emissions by 2030
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. In 2020 we declared a climate emergency and we have developed an ambitious strategy to help us achieve our goal of carbon net-zero for carbon emissions from electricity and heating by 2030 and net-zero from all other emissions by 2035.

Our sustainability strategy requires effective leadership, strong governance and a range of policies and plans that are both challenging and inspiring. We have set ambitious targets for meaningful change in order to fight the climate emergency.

Sustainable Development Goals
We're playing an active part in tackling The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Developed by the UN in 2015, the SDGs inspire global action to overcome the world’s biggest challenges — from hunger and poverty to equality and environmental action.
We are working with our research communities, external partners and colleagues on various projects that help towards achieving these goals - and aligning our sustainability strategy to enable this.
