Preparing for Lancaster

Starting university can be a big change. Preparing for Lancaster is an online course designed to help you prepare for your new life as a student at Lancaster University. The course is an introduction to life at Lancaster and includes information on making friends and settling in, academic skills, life skills, wellbeing and much more. It is your guide to life at Lancaster.

Lancaster Values and Behaviours

This Lancaster Values and Behaviours course explains what is expected from you as a Lancaster student.

The course consists of two modules:

  • Bystander Intervention Training: This module aims to foster a safe, positive campus where all students feel able to achieve their very best educationally and also enjoy their university experience. As members of our university community, we expect all our students to behave well: discrimination, intolerance and violence have no place on campus.
  • Consent for Students: Covers the law, the gender norms, stereotypes and cultural factors which may affect people’s ability to consent. It also supports people to communicate about consent with their partners and improve their ability to have good sexual communication.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: This module explains Lancaster’s approach to creating an inclusive community where everyone can feel safe and happy.

We are aware that some students may have concerns about the content of the Consent for Students module. You can find more information about the course content on the student induction hub.
