Event Details

Come along to this Green Lancaster ECOWild Session to receive free freshwater citizen science training from Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) as part of their Discovering Priority Habitats project.

Focusing on priority habitats forms a portion of the UK’s commitment to the International Convention on Biodiversity. Rivers and lakes make up a unique and poorly supported component of our priority habitats. While the state and condition of large water bodies in the UK is fairly well understood, we know very little about the health of our small waterbodies i.e. streams, headwaters and small lakes.

In the morning session, we will learn how to undertake lake and river naturalness assessments. In the afternoon, we will utilise the skills you have learned to undertake a naturalness assessment of Lake Carter on campus. The data which we collect will be submitted to Natural England to help them better understand the country’s priority habitats.
