Join the Green Lancaster team on an ECOWild field trip to Walney Island and discover some spectacular coastal environments in Morecambe Bay.
As part of this field excursion, we will join Community Engagement Officer Yolanda Aze from the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and the project The Bay: a Blueprint for Recovery. The Bay project is a partnership between Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and the Eden Project that aims to help people immerse themselves in various activities including guided walks, rockpooling, beach cleans, and art to reconnect with nature and improve their wellbeing. We will spend the day on the coast where we will look for shark eggcases, discuss and collect marine litter, explore the wonders of rockpools and more!
All volunteers joining this field trip will need to bring warm and waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear such as hiking boots, as well as a packed lunch and warm drink. Walney Island is an exposed location and it will be very cold, even in dry weather. Warm layers and full waterproofs are necessary. It will be possible to borrow equipment from Green Lancaster if necessary when booking your place. Transport is provided.
Please note this activity requires a reasonable level of fitness due to the terrain, planned activities and walking distance to the work site. Please contact the Green Lancaster team on green@lancaster.ac.uk if you have any questions related to accessibility requirements.
Full details will be circulated by e-mail to all registered volunteers during the week commencing 13th February.
Our field trips are a real opportunity and privilege to experience the great outdoors and contribute to significant projects across the country that tackle the climate and ecological emergencies. If you have booked a place but are no longer able to attend, please cancel your ticket to enable someone else to benefit from this opportunity. Thank you.
