Join the Green Lancaster team's ECOWild Adventures for a chance to immerse yourself in the natural world through wildlife observation and mindful activities.
The events take place on Wednesday afternoon in week 3, 4, 6, and 8 and include elements such as flora identification, wildlife observation, nature immersion, creative activities, and outdoor tea break.
On 8th February, we will head into the centre of Lancaster to explore three wild urban spaces: Scotch Quarry Park, the canal, and Fairfield Nature Reserve. The route is a 5km loop on foot from the centre of town. You will get to visit and learn about local community projects growing food and enhancing nature, discuss the importance of urban green spaces for wildlife and people, celebrate the changing seasons, and make a small keepsake from willow wood to take home with you. We will do so with the help of books, binoculars and other material such as identification sheets. No previous knowledge or experience required.
We will provide tea and snacks and take some time to relax in this beautiful environment. At the end of the day, you will get to take part in a ‘Mindful Moment’ as part of which we will lead you through a few minutes of grounding in and appreciation for the natural world around us.
A member of the Green Lancaster Team will meet you at the Pointer roundabout at 13:00. There are a number of buses from campus – bus stops ‘Sulby Drive’ (lines 1A, 2X, 40, 41, and 42) and ‘Greaves Park’ (lines 4 and 100) are the closest. We will finish the afternoon around 16:00 in the centre of town.
An e-mail will be sent to all registered participants a few days before the event.
Please ensure you are wearing appropriate outdoor footwear and clothing (warm and waterproof). You are welcome to bring snacks and a drink with you.
Please contact us on green@lancaster.ac.uk in advance of the session if you have reduced mobility or accessibility requirements.
