Open Access Parking
Both sheltered and unsheltered open-access type cycle parking stands are located across campus for any cyclist to use. There are more that 1200 spaces to choose from with new stands being installed constantly. Using these stands is completely free and provides a convenient place to store your bike during lectures, study or work.
Each stand will accommodate two bikes comfortably and we always advise that these are secured using a D-Lock style bike lock as these are proven to be the most effective deterrent to thieves. Please do not overcrowd the bike racks as this can lead to damage of your or other peoples property. If one location is full, there is another close by.
What should I do if I notice something suspicious?
It is important that you remain vigilant around campus and report anything you might suspect. You can do this via the Security Lodge, which is open 24/7 all year round.
If you see anything suspicious or have been approached by anyone for information about these facilities, please report it immediately to the Security Lodge, who will then adopt the appropriate measures and inform the police.
Call the Security Lodge on 01524 594541 and report anything suspicious as soon as possible.
If you are in immediate danger, you should call 999 directly and report the incident to the police. A member of the Security Team may then make contact with you afterwards to discuss the incident if required.

Additional information accordion
The use of these facilities is completely free of charge. Facilities that are designated 'Open Access Parking' are available to all students, staff and visitors.
Open Access Cycle Parking is intended for daily use rather than overnight storage of bikes. Most Open Access Parking is located in fairly busy, well-lit areas of campus with plenty of people around to deter thieves. These facilities are located in places that people are likely to commute, such as Lecture Theatres, entrances to key buildings, and near facilities such as the Sports Centre or Library.
We recommend using a D-style lock to secure your bike as these are proven to be the most effective deterrent to thieves.
If you see something suspicious or feel your bike has been tampered with in any way, you should report it to the Security lodge immediately by calling 01524 594541.
Cycle parking facilities are monitored by staff regularly. Bikes left overnight aren't likely to be removed unless they are posing a health and safety risk to others.
Bikes that are left for a prolonged period of time (weeks) may be tagged by Security with a warning that the bike is likely to be removed if it is not collected shortly after notice is issued. If the bike is not moved by the deadline given by Security, then the bike will be disposed of accordingly.
Open Access Cycle Parking is available to everyone. There are no restriction places on which location you choose to park at other than the availability on the day. It is not possible to reserve parking spaces and bikes should be parked correctly to maximise the number of spaces available for others.
Resident and Staff Secure Parking are reserved and are unavailable to those who do not meet the correct criteria.
There are certain areas of campus where cycling is not permitted. As a general rule, please stick to the perimeter road and the adjacent Avenues and then dismount, walking your bike to your desired parking facility if necessary. Take a look at the campus cycling map for cycle routes between the City and Campus.
Yes. There are security tagging services offered in Alexandra Square at the start of term and the police regularly set up marking events to provide cycle security advice and offer security marking and registration onto BikeRegister's online database.
Registering your bike helps police and retailers identify and verify the legitimate owner of bikes that have been stolen or are being resold.
