Our Developmental Disorders MSc is perfect for motivated students who have completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology or a related field, or who have experience working with children in educational or health settings. In particular, this programme will appeal to students who are compassionate and enthusiastic about exploring the neurodivergences present within the human population, and how we can support children growing up with developmental disorders to ensure that they don’t get left behind.

What to expect

This programme has been designed to ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of both neurotypical and neurodiverse human development, with a special emphasis on childhood and related developmental disorders. Our core modules will lay the theoretical groundwork necessary to undertake ethical and safe studies involving children and young people with developmental disorders.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to select from a range of optional modules, allowing you to customise your degree and explore topics that are of particular interest to you. From mental health to psychology in education, these modules will allow you to specialise your learning and provide you with a more holistic insight into the nature of developmental psychology and developmental disorders.

In your final term, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned through a dissertation project, on a topic that you are passionate about. Access to state-of-the-art developmental psychology labs and equipment—such as neuroimaging, EEG, eye-tracking, and computational modelling—will provide you with invaluable hands-on research skills. This experience will boost your professional development and will make you a standout candidate for future employers.
