What to expect

Over the course of this degree, you will undertake a series of compulsory modules aimed to bolster your understanding of the fundamentals of research methods and data analytics. Our core modules will introduce you to research methods utilised in all of the key areas of psychology (social, developmental, neuroscience and cognitive). They will also ensure that you are equipped to analyse a variety of data sets using statistical software, providing you with the hands-on-experience you need to undertake psychological research in the real world.

In addition to our core modules, you will also be able to select from a range of optional modules, all intended to supplement your understanding of psychological research methods in action. From delving into digital behavioural data, to exploring the nature of developmental disorders, our optional modules allow you to specialise into areas of psychological research that particularly interest you.

In the final part of the degree, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned through a dissertation project, which you will complete through independent research supported by leading researchers within our Department. This hands-on experience is crucial for your professional development and will make you an ideal candidate for future employers. Entry requirements

Academic Requirements

2:1 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in Psychology or related cognate discipline. Your degree must have covered some Statistics and Research Methods modules.

We will also consider applications on an individual basis where you have a degree in an unrelated subject, or a 2:2 or equivalent result. In these cases, you should clearly demonstrate how your experience and skills have prepared you for postgraduate study, in particular providing you with a background in statistics and research methods appropriate to psychology.

If you have studied outside of the UK, we would advise you to check our list of international qualifications before submitting your application.

English Language Requirements

We may ask you to provide a recognised English language qualification, dependent upon your nationality and where you have studied previously.

We normally require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 7.0, and a minimum of 6.0 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.

If your score is below our requirements, you may be eligible for one of our pre-sessional English language programmes.
