I chose Lancaster because of its amazing reputation. Once here I discovered many meaningful reasons to love it. I enjoy the environment Lancaster provides, and the departments always try to help as much as possible. Now, it feels like home.

It’s definitely a diverse place to study. Going to my lectures and networking events at the Lancaster Management School I am surrounded by so many inspirational women. I have a strong community of female peers and friends and there are many inspirational women teaching and leading at Lancaster.

Settling in

As an international student, you might wonder how life in the UK will impact your cultural needs and customs whether that's faith, food or finding a community that will welcome you. At Lancaster, we've got you covered.

Food

Food options

On-campus eateries Pizetta, Wibbly Wobbly Burger Bar, Wok Inn and Friends Bistro all offer Halal options and all offer plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices. There's a small supermarket on campus with a small selection of Halal and Kosher products and supermarkets in Lancaster have plenty of choice too.

Chaplaincy centre

Faith groups

Lancaster University values inclusivity and diversity, offering a multi-faith chaplaincy open to all, including those without faith. The campus features separate prayer rooms for brothers and sisters, with men’s and women’s wudhu facilities. Students can use these spaces anytime for personal prayer or congregational events hosted by the university's active Islamic Society.

The Prayer Room on campus holds a special meaning for me. It’s not just a place to pray, but also a welcoming space with a small kitchen and even table tennis. As a Muslim who prays five times a day, having this dedicated area is invaluable. The people there are amazing, and it feels like home—a peaceful spot where I can rest during long breaks. It’s a place that truly humbles and connects people

Taghreed Al-Ghaith

Taghred helps to shape Saudi Arabia’s healthcare future

For Taghred Alghaith (PhD Management Science, 2013), tackling the challenges that face the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia requires all the skills she picked up at Lancaster University.

As Director General for National Health Economics and Policies in the Saudi Health Council, Taghred must plan long-term and short-term strategies and design policies to improve people’s quality of life and health standards. Healthcare reforms are a major focus of the Saudi government, and Taghred is involved in this important work.

It is no easy task. But in Lancaster University Management School, Taghred built a wealth of research skills and knowledge that mean she is well-placed to inform decision-makers in order to improve the health and well-being of millions.

Taghred has many fond memories of her time at the Bailrigg campus.

“I do miss Lancaster,” she says  “You were able to feel part of a community. It’s amazing – it has been almost 10 years and I am still friends with the people I shared an office with and those I lived with. The great thing about the University was how it was designed and how it helped us stay together with friends for so long. Between my academic life and my social life, I was able to make friends – who I still have now – from Germany, from Kenya, Egypt, all over the world.

Find out more about Taghred's Lancaster experience and how it shaped her future.
