In this session, Professor Anne-Marie Fortier will give guests a taster of some of the themes she explores with students on the module ‘Racisms and Racial Formations’.
She will explore questions such as: What can we learn from the Black Lives Matter protests which took place in the UK and elsewhere last year? Why is it important to remember the slave trade? What forms does racism take?
The session will also feature a panel discussion in which Professor Fortier and current undergraduate students will explore how thinking and researching sociologically can shed light on the issues raised.
Finally, Dr Joe Deville will introduce some of the key features of Lancaster University’s BA Sociology degree course to participants.
