On Wednesday 16th March 2016, the Faculty held its third STEM Schools Challenge as part of British Science Week, welcoming 170 pupils from 14 schools to compete in four challenges that cover the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The sunny campus at Lancaster University provided the perfect backdrop as 170 students from local schools arrived, ready to compete in a range of activities in the challenges spanning the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The promising young scientists were put to the test setting up a chemical reaction, building hologram-like projection stages using iPads, designing and firing bottle-rockets and making precision measurements.

All of the teams put in an amazing effort, but the top 3 from each challenge and the overall winners were as follows...

Science Top 3: 1st Lancaster Royal Grammar School, 2nd Lancaster Girls' Grammar School, 3rd Carnforth High School

Technology Top 3: 1st Morecambe Community High School, 2nd Carnforth High School, 3rd Ulverston Victoria High School

Engineering Top 3: 1st Keswick School, 2nd Lancaster Royal Grammar School, 3rd Ulverston Victoria High School

Maths Top 3: 1st Lancaster Royal Grammar School, 2nd Kirkbie Kendal School, 3rd Ripley St Thomas CE Academy
