New MOU with University of Bahrain offers research and teaching opportunities

On 22nd March Lancaster University hosted a visit from, President of the University of Bahrain, Dr Faud Mohammed for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The new partnership will focus on educational and research exchanges to enhance academic opportunities for staff and students at each institution.

For Lancaster University Management School, expected collaborations would initially work towards staff and student exchange, dual degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, study abroad, summer schools and executive education.

Future possibilities also include opportunities for the School of Engineering in the areas of Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Research areas such as Family Business yield high potential in the Gulf region with family-owned businesses contributing significantly to the area’s economic growth as well as logistics with a DHL hub based in Bahrain.

Lancaster has previously held no presence in the region. Further recruitment from the Gulf region is a strong prospect with a high demand for UK postgraduate programmes.

Professor Marwan Izzeldin, Associate Dean International at Lancaster University Management School, said: “This new partnership between Lancaster and Bahrain offers a wealth of opportunities to both institutions through mobility and research. I look forward to our future collaborations and am thankful to Professor Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari for his esteemed visit and constructive discussions.”

The University of Bahrain, established in 1986, is the largest public university in the kingdom with approximately 26,000 students, offering 86 academic programs across 10 colleges and AACSB-accredited Business Schools since 2016.
