The high standard of work at this year’s Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) Degree show meant there were three winners of the Dean’s Prize for Fine Art.

Charlotte Cullen’s dramatic sculptural paintings, chunky wool sculptures by Hana Fredericks and tactile textural artwork by Demi Bromfield all caught the eye of Professor Simon Guy, the Dean of Lancaster University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, while judging the annual competition.

The winning students were each presented with certificates by the Dean at the opening of the new exhibition entitled ‘Under Construction’ this week.

The 2018 show brings together work by the first BA (Hons) Design course students graduating at Lancaster University with that of the BA (Hons) Fine Art students at the LICA Degree Show.

Professor Guy congratulated everyone on their work.

“Each year this gets more and more difficult to judge,” he told opening night visitors. “Last year I awarded two prizes. This year I went round and couldn’t make up my mind because there was just so much good work. And for that reason, this year, there are three winners.”

The free exhibition, open to the public, takes place in three neighbouring locations on campus – The Peter Scott Gallery, Bowland Studios and the LICA building.

The work will be on show from June 20 to 30 (weekdays 11am to 5pm, Saturday 11am to 4pm, closed Sundays).
