The Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council Professor Paul Boyle was among six people distinguished in their field who have been awarded honorary degrees at the July graduation ceremonies.
Professor Paul Boyle is Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and President of Science Europe in Brussels. He is due to become Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester in October 2014.
Before taking a leading role at the ESRC in 2010, he was Head of the School of Geography and Geosciences at the University of St Andrews.
A graduate of Lancaster University, his research interests lie in population and health geography and in the quantitative analysis of large data sets.
He was Director of the ESRC-funded Longitudinal Studies Centre – Scotland, Co-Director of the ESRC-funded Centre for Population Change, and Co-Investigator on both the Wellcome Trust-funded Scottish Health Informatics Programme and the ESRC-funded Administrative Data Liaison Service.
