The award is given annually for "excellence in teaching in the Department, as nominated by the student body". Dr MacDonald was nominated for his undergraduate teaching in algebra, particularly linear algebra.
Dr Alexander Belton, Head of Undergraduate Teaching, said, "Mark is an engaging and popular lecturer who achieves excellent results. He is also a dedicated Director of Studies, widely regarded as helpful and approachable.
"His lectures have been applauded by the students as "very clear", "fun" and "interesting"; it's even said that he "makes it enjoyable to attend lectures". The shortlist for the 2015 Tower of Teaching award was a very strong one, and it's a pleasure to see Mark receive this acknowledgement of his teaching excellence."
