Day in the life of MSc Human Resource Management student
Posted on

Greetings readers,
Speaking of my days here in Lancaster is a journey of learning with a lot of emotion, every day there is something new on the to-do-list. Keeping me engaged and excited mostly, based on my 6 months experience here, I would like to share one typical day, that is my average day and how much I love it.
As the morning sun shines through my window, my alarm wakes me up at 8am signalling for me to embark on another dynamic day as an MSc HRM student.
By 10am I am in a lecture theatre, engaging through a session on organisational behaviour where our professor fosters an engaging environment, encouraging critical thinking and debate. These discussions include real world case studies and examples, making it relevant and insightful.
After my lectures I grab a good coffee from one of the favourite places on campus while quickly scrolling through emails and take a glance at my further schedule.
At around 12pm I head to a seminar. Here, I engage deeper into the key concepts of HRM through some fun group activities and presentations. Collaboration with peers and guest lecturers helps me get a deeper understanding on the concepts and different cultural perspectives on the topic.
By 2pm it's time for a much-needed lunch break. By this time the campus is buzzing with students talking about plans for week, assignment, or simply unwinding. I use this time to catch up with my friends and network with peers.
By 3pm I attend one of the career workshops organized by the Organization, Work and Technology department, where as a master’s student, I get to know about the job market, get help related to my future options available here, and understand how to best utilise it. Again, this is a chance to network with industry professionals.
I hit the gym for a quick workout around 5pm which helps me clear my mind before tackling my assignments in the evening. Sometimes, the evening is packed with events and activities organised by different departments like quizzes and academic writing sessions.
I’m back home by 7pm, I make a good cup of tea with some snacks to go with it and start my dinner plan. Perhaps later I will catch up with friends or watch an episode of a TV series. Before bed, I work on my assignments or review my notes and prepare for next day’s sessions. As I set my alarm for another day around 10pm, I reflect on my day and the balance of academia, networking and personal growth that defines life as a professional.
Every day I take a step closer to my career, and Lancaster University fosters a perfect environment for that journey.
