Environment Agency alliance
LEC businesses can take advantage of new opportunity to collaborate through LEC’s alliance with the Environment Agency (EA). Ellyse Maddocks, Northwest Knowledge and Partnership lead for the EA, has been appointed an Honorary Industrial Fellow, and will hot-desk at LEC.
Lancaster University to exploit its global reach for the benefit of UK SMEs
The Lancaster China Catalyst Programme aims to revitalise the UK's position in the global exports markets, create 240 jobs, help 400 domestic businesses and boost the economy by £40m. The £5.1 million Lancaster China Catalyst Programme - created by Lancaster University and part-funded by the Higher Education Funding Council's Catalyst Fund, the university and Lancashire County Council - will help small and medium sized UK firms compete in increasingly competitive global markets by helping them to become established in the world's fastest growing economy - China.

LEC co-location facilities featured in government report on how universities should work with businesses
A Government commissioned independent review of how universities should work with businesses to underpin economic growth has confirmed Lancaster University's strong focus on SME engagement and collaborative research is the right approach. LEC featured in Sir Andrew Witty's 'Encouraging a British Invention Revolution', as successful example of co-location facilities. Lancaster University was also cited as one of the top 20 Agri-tech organisations, and number one in the UK for collaboration with oil and gas.
Centre for Global Eco-Innovation supports region's green economy
The centre has helped ten manufacturing businesses apply for a total of £973,131 Technology Strategy Board (TSB) Materials and Manufacturing Launchpad funding. Jeff Boardman, chief technology officer at Trametox, said: "The help from the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation and Inventya was incredibly valuable.”The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund and is a collaboration between Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool and Inventya Limited. Opportunities for business are still available.

Feedstocks and Technologies for Energy and Fuel Generation
Monday 18th - Wednesday 20th November 2013, LEC
Aimed at new entrants and experienced practioners alike, this 3 day course focusses on the cross-sectoral issues which arise during the implementation of energy and fuels projects. Heavily case study based, students will hear at first hand the experiences of practitioners in this field, and will carry out a number of site visits in the locality. Students will learn from practicing financial investors about the risks involved in waste related projects, and gain an insight into the guarantees that must be in place before a project can proceed.

Resident company makes national awards final for partnership with Lancaster
Resident company DemoPad Software Limited has been announced as a finalist in the Prospects Postgraduate Awards, Best Business Partner category, for their collaborative partnership with Lancaster University. Nominated for the award by the university, DemoPad have hosted ten postgraduate placements and have undertaken a three year collaborative research project with the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation. Winners are announced on 19th November.

The project funds a team of recent graduates of IT disciplines to offer short term consultancy services for SMEs around areas such as: research into new technologies; proof of concepts; ICT strategies and infrastructure development; and mobile and web technologies.
