                                                                      The towers which surmounted it, seen in Albert Durer’s
                                                                      Venice, were destroyed in  in 1621 when it was given to
                                                                      the Turks.  Zanotto called its lower columns di biso
                                                                      orientale, the upper of Gk. marble:  Is very positive its
                                                                      medallion came chiefly from Torcello and Altino.  It is
                                                                      first heard of as belonging to the Dukes of Ferrara.
