                                                                      		Doges palace;  beginning of description:  Under At canal of
                                                                      		Ponte de Sospiri  First a grand story up to level of top
                                                                      		of pointed arches in front of magnificently solid
                                                                      		masonry  with three plain oblong {barred} windows left or,
                                                                      		I think, opened since.  Above one of these the effect of
                                                                      		the palace is not improved by a large modern stove chimney
                                                                      		something however like a gauntletted arm  brandishing in
                                                                      		its fist a cross truncheon with two trenchers like
                                                                      		opercula at the ends.   Above this solid masonry
                                                                      		separated only by a line of dentils, runs the ancient
                                                                      		moulding - which I must draw and above it a plinth (the
                                                                      		continuation of that of the front) added afterwards.
