37 37 Doges palace; beginning of description: At canal of Ponte de Sofini First a grand story up a level of top of pointed arches in front of magnificently solid masonry with three plain oblong barred windows left or, I think, openedsince. Above one of these the effect of the palace is not improved by a large modern stove chimney something however like a grauntletted arm brandishing in its fist a cross truncheon with two trenches like opescula at the ends. Above this solid masonry separated only by a line of dentils, runs the ancient moulding - which I must draw and above it a plinth (the continuation of that of the front) added afterwards.
