Levels of language & advertising slogans
We are now going to have a look at the way in which advertising slogans
exploit the different 'levels' of language for effect.
Note that advertisers want to catch our attention and have us remember
their advertisements, as part of a strategy to get us to buy what they
are advertising. They often do this by being unusual, breaking out of
the normal patterns of language (and, as we shall see in the next couple
of sessions, they share this tendency with poets and other innovative
users of language).
