Impacts of the LUSU Summer Ball on North Campus

North Drive and the LICA Building

The Students’ Union, in partnership with student representatives from the nine colleges, is looking forward to its inaugural Summer Ball event taking place in and around Lancaster Square (The County College) on Saturday 22 June 2024.

Summer Ball

The Summer Ball is a highly anticipated end-of-year celebration that will include live music (with guest headliner Professor Green), an on-campus fairground, silent disco, food and drink, and much more. It will provide an occasion to celebrate the achievements of all students throughout the academic year.

The event is coordinated in close partnership with the University Facilities Division and the following notices will make you aware of possible disruptions to your usual arrangements.

You can read more about what’s taking place at the event at www.lusummerball.com. All students and staff are welcome and invited to purchase tickets.

Parking, travel and cycle parking

North Drive will be closed between Bailrigg House Lane to Lancaster Square Avenue from 12am on Friday 21 June until 5am on Sunday 23 June. The road will be closed to all traffic, including cars, bicycles, and motorcycles to ensure pedestrian safety during the LUSU Summer Ball.

During this period, vehicle access to North Drive will be limited to authorised event vehicles only. Barriers will be in place to restrict vehicle access, with Bailrigg House Lane and Lancaster Square Avenue available as diversion locations for traffic to turn around and re-route south using the Perimeter Road.

Any vehicles parked in this area of North Drive during this time will not be accessible once the closure is in place. Please ensure that any cars parked in this location are relocated by 5pm on Thursday 20 June. Alternative parking facilities are available across campus.

The open access cycle parking racks located outside LICA and the Music Building will also be out of use during this time. Please ensure that any cycles parked here are removed prior to the closure. Alternative open access cycle parking sites are marked here.

Pedestrian access

Before and during the event, there will be some alterations to usual pedestrian access.

Temporary fencing will mark a perimeter around Lancaster Square and Great Hall Square with no access to these spaces from Rossendale Avenue, Bowland Avenue North or outside the Marketplace.

Access to the County Townhouses and County Main will be via the North Drive perimeter road. Access to Bowland Hall will be via Bowland Avenue North and Rossendale Avenue. You will not be able to cut through Lancaster Square or Great Hall Square to access these spaces.

During the event, the Roundhouse and Great Hall Complex will be closed and inaccessible. The County College Bar, Games Room and Common Room will also be closed. The woodland outside LICA will be closed to pedestrian access and access to the LICA Degree Show will be maintained throughout.

Noise

With live music throughout, localised disruption is expected and affected residents should have been notified previously. Licensed entertainment and live music are expected between the hours of 6pm-3am. Soundchecks will also be performed during the day of Saturday 22nd June between 12pm-5pm.
