First phase of District Heat Network installation to start in January

Temporary diversions will be put in place while installation work gets underway in Fylde accommodation quad. Find out more about the project and the areas affected.
From Monday 6 January for six-to-eight weeks the Net Zero Energy Project contractor, Vital Energi, will start work on the installation of the district heating pipework into Fylde accommodation boiler rooms.
The goal of the project is to virtually eliminate the use of gas to heat the University's Lancaster campus.
A large section of the pedestrian area in and around Fylde accommodation quad will be fenced off to enable the contractor to safely dig trenches for the installation of new pipes.
There will be no access into Fylde accommodation quad from the East (Perimeter road), and access will be maintained from the West entrance near Fylde Avenue.
This work will be noisy at times and there will be diversions in place. Alternative quieter study space is available in the Library or Learning Zone if required.
Please also be aware that:
- Bicycle storage on South Drive will remain open, accessible from South Drive only.
- Bin stores will be taken out of use within the quad and will be re-located to Fylde Avenue.
- Parking bays along both sides of South Drive will be taken out of use during the work but will be reopened as soon as the work completes.
The University is working with Vital Energi to programme the work and reduce the impact on the campus community as far as possible.
