As the world turns its attention to the United States, The Mill (Fylde Bar) is hosting a US Presidential Election All-nighter on Tuesday 5 November, where students can witness the significant political event live-streamed on multiple TV screens and a large projector screen.
The first, “projected results” from states are expected to be announced at around midnight in the UK. Traditionally, the final result is known by the time polls close on the West Coast, which, in the UK, will be approximately 4am. The result may take much longer to establish due to the time it takes to count postal votes.
Rather than closing as usual at 11pm on Tuesday 5 November, Fylde Bar will remain open throughout the evening and into the early hours, until normal opening times resume from 10am until 11pm on Wednesday 6 November.
About the elected candidates
In the Republican Party, former president Donald Trump won his party's support with a massive lead over his rivals. He became the official Republican nominee at a party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump chose Ohio senator JD Vance to be his vice-presidential running mate.
For the Democrats, Vice-President Kamala Harris joined the race after President Joe Biden dropped out and no other Democrats stood against her. Her running mate is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
