The Library & Learning Development are marking Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January by arranging a number of events to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. This date marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
Join us for the film screening of The Pianist. Followed by a discussion facilitated by Regional Ambassadors of the Holocaust Educational Trust. As World War II begins, a Polish Jewish pianist is forced into the Warsaw Ghetto. Separated from his family, he narrowly escapes the concentration camps. After being discovered in hiding, a German officer provides him food in exchange for his musical gifts.
