Buxton & Castleton (Peak District) – Saturday 13th April 2024

£20 per person* - Tickets available via online store

Our first stop has unfortunately had to change due to Lyme House not being able to host us on the 13th. So we will be stopping at Buxton instead. Anyone who has purchased tickets and no longer wants to travel should email gradcolltrips@lancaster.ac.uk and we will sort that out for you.

The first stop of the day will be the town of Buxton - with its Pavillion Gardens and lovely Victorian architecture. This will be followed by an afternoon in Castleton to explore the beautiful village and showcaves

Itinerary:

SUGGEST ARRIVING 5-10 MINUTES PRIOR TO DEPARTURE SO YOU DO NOT MISS THE COACH

08:15 town (Southbound A6/South Road – Infirmary Bus stop)

08:30 campus (Pendle Avenue)

10:30 (approx.) in Buxton

12:30 – Travel to Castleton

13:00 (approx.) arrive at Castleton

17:00 – leave for home

19:00 (approximately) – back on campus, followed by Lancaster city drop-off

Price includes coach travel ONLY... cavern tours will need to be booked and paid for separately.

Most of the cavern tours take around an hour - so aim for a 3pm tour if you are pre-booking

Buxton:

Buxton is a spa town - (a bit like Harrogate if you joined us for that trip). Full of Victorian architecture, lovely shops to explore - and as we will be there on a Saturday, that's also a market day. 13th April you will also find an antique and collectors fair to explore in the Pavillion Gardens!

Castleton:

Castleton is a beautiful village situated at the head of the Hope Valley in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The village is popular for its show caves, history, shops, Christmas lights, garland ceremony, Winnats Pass, Cave Dale and for those wishing to walk on the numerous footpaths in the area . Surrounded by hillsides and overlooked by Mam Tor (the shivering mountain) and the ancient Peveril Castle.

Speedwell Cavern https://speedwellcavern.co.uk/

These caverns are further away from the village, so it might be better to visit Peak or Speedwell.

Please also note: Ticket sales will remain open until Friday 12th April at 12pm (midday) – or until they sell (whichever is sooner).

All queries prior to the day of the trip should be directed to Jane Hulland on Teams, or gradcolltrips@lancaster.ac.uk

You will receive an automatic receipt of payment from the online store. During office hours, you will also be sent an email containing confirmation of the itinerary. This information will also be available on the teams group and libcal for you to view at any time.
