Join the Work Foundation at Lancaster University to explore new research on the factors for those with long-term health conditions that influence the risk of falling out of work, and how the Government can work together with employers to adopt a new policy framework to improve workforce health.

The new Government has set an ambitious target to Get Britain Working and raise the employment rate to 80% – which would represent an increase of approximately two million more people in work than today. Achieving this target is critical to the Government’s wider goals of growing the economy and improving living standards across the country.

But the UK faces a number of health-related workforce challenges that will make realising this ambition particularly difficult. The UK still remains the only G7 country with a smaller workforce than before the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the Government has focussed on getting people back into the labour market, there remains a significant policy gap as to how to stem the flow of those leaving the labour market due to ill health in the first place.
