Every year snakebite envenoming claims 138,000 lives and leaves 400,000 people permanently injured, particularly in rural and tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The late Kofi Annan called it ‘the biggest public health crisis you’ve never heard of’. But what’s being done to stop this silent menace?
Dr Steve Hall of Lancaster University will shed his skin as a pharmacologist to explore the history of snakebite, the limitations of current treatments, and cutting-edge research to improve treatment - both in the UK and abroad.
