How can we do climate science differently?

Climate science is narrow minded in its approach to the future, grounded in modernist and positivist perspectives that trumpet doing more and more science to forecast the Earth system and manage society’s decisions. As a climate scientist, I do believe that climate science - and associated advances in data science - do have an important role to play in understanding the future, but not at the expense of other disciplines and community voices.

In this talk, I will present the status quo of climate science and my own thoughts on how it can be approached differently. I then want to bring you all into a discussion on how the Environment Theme of ISF can address questions sustainability and global change in more inclusive and pluralist fashion.
