Workshop Facilitator: Meg Ritchie, Post Graduate Researcher in the Sociology Department

Duration: 12pm – 4pm - anytime in that duration - drop-in

Date: April 29th, 2025

Participants: Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Researcher students in the Sociology Department; Postgraduate Researchers across Lanncaster university.

Details: In-person workshop only

This workshop will explore the decolonial history, use, and process of zine making. During the workshop, participants will be provided with the necessary tools to create their own collective or individual zine pages, engaging with the practice via critical production to consider how they can decolonise their own research and studies. Tools will be provided during the session i.e., writing provocations, cut and paste materials, and previous examples, to facilitate and inspire creativity. These single-page zines will then be added, with permission from participants, into a collaborative zine project about university students’ perceptions of decolonisation within their respective fields.

The workshop is open to undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate researcher students within the Sociology department, with an open invitation of attendance for postgraduate researchers across the wider university.

This is a walk-in zine workshop. There will be an introduction at both 12pm and 2pm for attendees, with the session running for four hours in total from 12pm - 4pm. You can stay for as long or as little as you want. Refreshments will be provided throughout! Supported by FASS Decolonisation.
