MAFA are a small architectural practice based in rural Scotland. They were formed by Mary in 2016 to create quiet, humane, restrained and beautifully crafted places and spaces based on a rigorous study of site, context, landscape and brief to try to create a backdrop for people’s work, their art and lives. MAFA's work spans from the Lake District in the south to Orkney in the North. Currently, they have 22 projects in the office with 7 on site. They design based on studies of the specifics of site and the materials used. They aim to use as many natural and local materials in their builds as is practical. Winners of awards from the RIBA, RIAS, Architecture Association and Architects’ Journal, their growing body of work is testimony to the success of their approach to design.
Alongside their practice they publish a magazine, Alder, that seeks out thoughtful architecture, whatever the size and with a focus on sustainable local materials. It celebrates the makers, craftsmen and women alongside the photographers and writers and architects.
This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome to attend. Please ensure you register.
