Event Details

‘Addressing emotionally impactful research’ (organised as part of the Harm, Crime and Criminalisation Research Centre) will bring people from varying career stages together to discuss sensitive research and disrupt the silence around these issues with a means to encourage best practice and develop collective ideas to centralise researcher wellbeing.

Organised as part of the Harm, Crime and Criminalisation Research Centre

This half-day event focuses on understanding and addressing the impacts of research that deals with emotionally laborious issues. Faculties which engage social sciences, law and humanities often disproportionately work on subject areas that include violence, harm, abuse and/or inequalities, with methods that draw out complex emotions. This can increase the likelihood of researchers developing vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue. It can also lead to a sense of isolation.
