Sunny Selected as Chair for Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
The former Chief Officer for Tourism and Marketing with Portsmouth City Council is credited with 'transforming the economy of the City'. She commented, 'It is a great honour and a privilege to have been selected as Chairman of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. This is the first appointment of an independent Chairman and a signal that the partners are determined to change the way they operate going forward. I enjoyed my time in Portsmouth as Chief Officer for Tourism and Marketing and I am delighted to have this new opportunity to make a contribution here.'
She has a distinguished and successful career in the leadership, planning and successful delivery of transformational regeneration initiatives including with the pioneering London Docklands Development Corporation responsible for the regeneration of East London. She was also the entrepreneurial Founder Chairman of Visit East London and of Great British Cities and an adviser to the cities of Madrid, Beirut, Sydney and Shanghai.
Currently, she is the Director responsible for mixed use regeneration projects in East London and was, until recently, a Non Executive Director of Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation and of Places for People. As Governor of the University of East London, she chairs the Capital Projects Steering Group and is the Founder Chair of the Centre of Excellence for Women Entrepreneurs. Sunny’s achievements have earned many awards including the first Cities’ Award from the English Tourist Board; the first London Docklands Business Person of the Year Award; the Tourism Society Award for Lifetime Achievement and the first SHINE Award for ‘being an inspiration to other women’. She has been honoured with an OBE for Business, Regeneration and Tourism, an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Civic Award for contributions to Business and the Community.
