The winners of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2017 in India were announced at a gala award ceremony hosted on Friday 24 March, 2017 in New Delhi, by Sir Dominic Asquith, the British High Commissioner to India.
Neha Upadhaya, alumna from Lancaster University and King’s College, London was awarded the Social Impact Award at a prestigious ceremony. The awards were organised by the British Council with support of the British High Commission in India.
Neha’s company, Guna sources organic produce directly from 650 women farmers in Leh, Afghanistan, Keral and encourages a holistic approach to eating and staying healthy. She is a macrobiotic coach in New Delhi.
After finishing at King’s College, she worked in the Education Sector in the UK where her focus was on children suffering from juvenile diabetes, autism, ADHD and other motor neurological problems.
She observed their lifestyle, and was reluctant to treat them with western medication. She decided to undertake training at the Daylesford Organic Cookery School, Wholefood Harmony and Navdanya in Organics & Macrobiotics which have proven to have alternative healing practises.
Upon her return to India, she founded GUNA, whose vision is to empower women through organic macrobiotic food and ecological agriculture based activities which have helped to secure her position in society as a role model for the future generations.
