Let Them Eat Cake!

Let Them Eat Cake! -

Chris Ormrod at Lancaster

The University was delighted to welcome back alumnus, Chris Ormrod (BA Theatre Studies, 1985, Cartmel) to campus in May 2016.

Chris, now Managing Director (or Prime Minister, as he prefers) of The Ministry of Cake, spoke to alumni and students about his career.

His journey has taken him from his days at the Edinburgh Fringe (where he decided acting wasn’t for him) to senior roles in the food industry, including Haagen-Dazs and Virgin, where he worked with Richard Branson, to where he is now - running his own business, The Ministry of Cake, the largest dessert manufacturer for the UK foodservice industry.

The audience of alumni and students gained a lot of insight from Chris’ talk and also had the opportunity to network and, of course, eat plenty of cake!

Chris commented: “This was a really well organised event that gave a lot of people the chance to talk to a lot of relevant people. I came away with the strong impression that Lancaster is producing some very high quality graduate talent. A great reminder of why I chose Lancaster for my own degree.”

Sarah Fox, Careers Education and Guidance Manager at Lancaster University said: “This was an innovative event that enabled alumni to network; current students to meet and learn from the attending alumni: and both parties could draw on careers advice at the event, or afterwards.”
