55 Years of the Hiking Club

Hiking Club

2022 marks the 55th Anniversary of the Lancaster University Hiking Club (LUHC) and to celebrate, all club alumni, friends and family are invited to the anniversary celebrations in May.

LUHC runs trips every week during term-time, taking more than thirty students each week to the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales for day hikes and organising weekend trips three times a term to places further afield, such as Scotland and Wales, including the legendary Glencoe weekend. The club also runs a variety of additional social and training activities, such as the annual winter skills course, first aid courses, navigation training and avalanche safety talks. These trips provide a vital escape for many students from the University, and their physical and mental health benefits are frequently acknowledged by members. For many members, the Hiking Club is what attracted them to Lancaster!

To celebrate their anniversary, LUHC is hosting a 55th anniversary weekend from 29th April to 2nd May 2022, and all club alumni, friends and family are invited!

The event will be a chance to catch up with friends old and new, share stories from the club's rich history and give back to the outdoors community we all love. The main event for the weekend will be ‘The Big Bag’, an attempt to collectively summit all 214 Wainwrights within a 24 hour period, whilst raising money for charity.

More information on the event is available at https://fb.me/e/2bWVhhKUB and you can sign up to the event mailing list at https://forms.gle/s326CkAi56ugsY3c6. The club would also love to see pictures and stories from throughout the club's 55 years, which can be sent to luhc55th@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!
