Internationalisation and international collaboration: perspectives matter
Every year, the Department of Educational Research has invited international speakers to visit the Department and to work with students and colleagues. This year, in 2021, the Department of Educational Research is running a series of online events, ‘Celebrating International Collaboration’, aimed at opening up discussion and debate about internationalisation and international collaboration. Sessions will highlight critical perspectives of concern and ways that the Department of Educational Research, through its Research Centres, is involved in and operates as a platform for international collaboration, and the importance it attaches to international collaboration. We see this as a platform for exploring in more depth how to move forward with international collaboration for the future. This first event in March will set the scene.
Three key speakers will offer different perspectives:
Speaker 1: Prof Steve Bradley, Deputy VC, Lancaster University, UK - What is internationalisation and international collaboration from a university perspective?
Speaker 2: Prof Valentina Dagiene, Principal Researcher, Vilnius University, Lithuania - What is internationalisation and international collaboration from an EU university perspective now that the UK has left the EU?
Speaker 3: Prof Melinda dP. Bandalaria, Chancellor, UPOU, The Philippines - What is internationalisation and international collaboration for a university 6,500 miles from the UK?
This launch event will focus on two main questions, of particular pertinence in contemporary contexts: How do we and others think about internationalisation and international collaboration? Why should we spend time collaborating internationally, how, and for what purposes? After our three speakers have provided three different perspectives from their three different contexts, then you, the participants, will be able to have your say, and to ask questions of our distinguished panel!
