History of Philosophy in the 17th & 18th Centuries
Hume Resources
Hume's texts
Several editions of the Enquiry are available, including:
- An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (Oxford Philosophical
Texts) by David Hume, Tom L. Beauchamp Oxford, 1999, OUP.
Second hand copies all editions are generally available via
Abebooks, which accesses most serious
second-hand bookshops world wide and which I can warmly recommend.
Hume's Enquiry, and his other philosophically relevant writings, are available
free on the web.
- An excellent edition of the Enquiry
has been prepared by Peter Millican of Leeds University. It is usefully bookmarked
so I have been able to use it without futher editing for my presentations.
- A plain text version of the Enquiry is here.
- Hume's A Treatise of Human Nature is available as a plain text
file here
Introductions to Hume's thought include:
- A.J.Ayer: Hume, Oxford, 1980, OUP Past Masters
General introductions available on-line include:
Hume web portals
