A photographer is searching for something real to shoot. He
takes close-ups of a lover's body but the contacts fails to please. Taking a stroll in the
park he captures a stolen kiss. A couple hold each other at arm's length as he holds their
photo up to the light. What seemed picture perfect is now anything but. In the dark room,
blow-up after blow-up developments occur. In the bathroom, the woman washes her hair as
films are processed and drowns as photos swim in the bath. The photographer hangs her
image up to dry. Her face torn. Murder clues are dodged and burned, and photos of death
come to life. As reality and fantasy collide, the photographer has to decide how to let
her go. Inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film, METRO-BOULOT-DODO 'blow-up' the
relationship between artist and subject. Always inventive and incisive, their work plots
escape routes from the everyday. New media meets old camera in this chemical-soaked fusion
of hi-tech video and lo-tempo music. Blurring the boundary between action and soundtrack,
cinema and stage, MBD make photos live and love-stories die. |
