Hello hello! It’s Kathy from the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme. I had an awesome time at Lancaster and would love to share it with you.

Fun activities during the winter break

Definitely, the Sports Centre at Lancaster University is number 1. During the winter break, it offered an unbelievable deal: HALF the price for TWICE the playtime. The badminton sessions were only £2 for 2 hours. There were even free rackets and shuttles. My badminton team was like: whattttttttt, let’s go ASAP. Badminton is my favourite. So, this has made my holiday super awesome.

During the year, I joined the Badminton society and Vietnamese society. Both societies have lovely Christmas dinners. I got a surprise birthday cake in December from lovely people, and it was so heartwarming. It is a touching feeling when you study in a different country, as an international student, and people just genuinely take care of you. I am just so grateful for such precious moments and people I met in Lancaster.

Experiences on my course so far

I truly learned a lot during my programme. Regarding a specialised module, I am highly impressed with the Logistics Management course. We had a group work on major logistics disruptions, which helped us understand relevant disruptions in today’s world. You may also know these events: The Red Sea Crisis (2023), Covid 19 (2019), NotPetya cyberattacks on big companies (2016), etc. It is a precious chance to learn about how different firms mitigate these risks and develop a recovery plan promptly.

In terms of a more soft-skill module, I am excited about the People, Organisation and Leadership course. I discovered new aspects about myself and my behaviours in a team, which is insightful. In this course, I also met one of the nicest professors, Daniel. During class, I met with a problem that made me panic for like 1 hour. I then mustered some courage and asked him about his method to stay calm. He was super patient and told me: “Is this a 7-hour problem? Is this a 7-week problem? If it only lasts that long, then it should not be something to be worrying about. The fastest way to calm down is to let the rational brain take control.” He is right. It works. I used to dwell on my emotions so much, and now I am calm just after 30 minutes!?! I am just forever grateful for that lesson.

Now, I am in full power in this Lent term. When I met my classmates after the winter holiday, they were all in serious mode for two big upcoming exams. Especially it is “memorable” for those who already worked in the industry for a few years and now come back as a student to study for exams. They all agree to “cherish” this moment. And yay, we finished the exams well and are excited for new challenges this term.
