I will walk you through a normal day for me as a Money, Banking and Finance (MBF) student at Lancaster University Management School.

The Lent term is sort of easier than the Michaelmas term, at least for me. Besides, I am more familiar with studying at Lancaster University Management School, so I have more time for myself compared to last term.

Morning

At 7:30, I usually wake up and make my breakfast and coffee to prepare myself for the day. After that, I start checking my email as there are constant updates from the economic department and the learning and development team. Based on my needs, I select which emails are the most important for me to act on. Following that, I check stock market news as the Asian markets are being traded, and the Europe markets are about to open around that time. I do this because I trade in the Egyptian and American stock markets, so I need to follow the news globally. It is a tough time for markets nowadays as of February and March 2025, isn’t it?

Around 9:30, I go to the library to study. It is a good idea to finish some coursework or revise some materials for this term’s modules in the morning. I am still fresh and energetic, so I can get things done. The library is like a work office for me. I meet my friends and colleagues there, and we chat and encourage each other to go the extra mile.

Afternoon

Today, I have just one lecture at 13:00 for a module called International Money and Banking taught by Professor John Whittaker. Personally, I like this module the most because it investigates how the central banks are dealing with other banking institutions. Also, the module explains the intersection between the role of banks in the payment system, monetary policy and fiscal policy. Another thing to mention about this course is that it goes through how banks’ regulations have evolved through recent economic crises. I find this course fascinating to be honest.

Finishing the lecture at 15:00, I go back home—which is on campus—to have my lunch and check the US market updates as the market has opened at 13:30. I usually finish those activities at 17:00 or 17:15. Depending on the day, I take a nap for about 30 minutes if the workload is low or continue working if it is high. Today, I have a task, as an MBF student representative, to make a feedback form to be sent to my colleagues to gather their views about the modules in the Lent term, which was to be presented to the program director. Luckily, the feedback form is already made by the Economics department, so I just made some additions and modifications that didn’t take a lot of time and sent it to the Postgraduate Co-coordinator for a final review.

Evening

At about 19:15, I prepare myself for football training for Postgraduate Lancaster students, which is held at 20:00 every Wednesday. That 1 hour every week really feels good. The football training is so friendly and casual that no one has been injured since we started playing in October 2024.

Finally, I am at home at 21:00 or 22:00, depending on the Champions League timetable. We sometimes go to Fylde bar to watch a Champions League game, as Wednesday nights are known for. After that, I just shower, eat, and make my to-do list for the next day, and life moves on.
