92 87 The dogt band b c fig 3 is all in one pieve of marble; it is 3¾ in. over; The base of the dogt. is 2 in over and each side of the dogteeth is an equilateral of 2 in each side, or nearly so, the inner sides of the base being of course a little smaller than the outer. There are 36 dogt. round; also with an interval at lowest and highest point - of course I mean merely that there is a separation and not a tooth by the term interval The raising of the band at b and c is from ¼ to ½ an inch then being no wider interval at bottom than elsewhere. only. The diameter of the inner green circle is 1 " 8 It is I think of Genoa serpentine: at all events of a flaky micaceous greenstone, much decomposed. The centrel boss is of white marble; at fig 4 p 48 1 about 2½ in wide, by 1½ high. It seems fastened by a nail. The most singular point about the ornament is the per- fect preservation of the dogt. which seen in hard compact marble, and the decomposition of the dentil; which is in Greek marble; q can the latter be older? Has it any x. The point of the Ninth arch from Noah is under the thing to do with the old sugary white capitals of upper singular marble capital of the upper arcade, let this be x arcade. fig 1 above: Then the central balcony has its centre Another of these decorations is left over the 10th capital between this and the one to the east of it; and it is between the 9th and 10th arch from Noah x vid opposite thus placed, symmetrically by the upper 4 foils above. Its measures are precisely including 2 entire and about a third on each side, but unsymmetrically by the great lower arches and this circu- lar decoration, which by the bye is of course too much inside in this figure, it should be exactly under the small shaft C.
