Its base is of course an addition of later times, and looks it. It is a mere ring fastened down by meagre straight scaley bands; full of coarse drill holes instead of the noble shieldlike leaves. It is rough chiselled. Its section at p 56 1 pal. book. Finally, the pilaster capital has leafage like the angle one meaningless figures with swords, maces, and shields, - one with a winged cap: (This is the half pillar next Porta della Carta.
