House . No 54

Palazzo Vitturi (Castello 5246, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 30) in Campo S. Maria Formosa - directly opposite the apse of the church with side at Calle dei Orbi. See Notebook M p.116 ‘Compare the rebated form of Casa Vittura, Palace book p 7’ Notebook M p.208, Palace Book pp.10L and 10. Compare House Book 2 p.6. Also Works, 10.166 ‘The best examples of the cross set above the windows are found in houses of the transitional period: one in the Campo St M. Formosa’ Works, 11.281 Final Appendix, (Archivolts) Plate 9, Vol, 3 ‘21. Keystone door in Campo St. M. Formosa’

Notebook M2 p.3 is concerned with circle mouldings. The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B reads Vittora for one of the examples there and that is a plausible reading of the manuscript. Palazzo Vitturi, at Castello 5246, Ruskin’s House Number 54 at House Book 2 pp.6L and 6, would be appropriate to the sense of Notebook M2 p.3 but although Casa Vitturi has an entry in the index at Notebook M2 p.198 there is no mention there of Notebook M2 p.3.

There is further detailed description at Palace Book pp.7L and 7; PB10Land11.
