On Ruskin's attitude to the Visconti see Works, 35.482 where the Certosa of Pavia is ‘one of the worst shames of Italy, associated with the accursed reign of Galeazzo Visconti’. The Visconti were associated with Milan Cathedral from its beginning in 1385 until the death of Filippo Maria Visconti in 1447. Compare Ruskin's comments on the scale of the Palaces of Milan at Works, 35.117.
