Falier - The reference is to the house at Cannaregio 5643, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav.17. In Ruskin’s index at Notebook M2 p.190 under ‘Capitals’ there is a reference to ‘Falier’ at Notebook M2 p.70, which is clearly right, but also another to House Book 2 p.12. It is difficult to make sense of that second reference.

Foscari The reference is presumably to the Great Foscari at Dorsoduro 3246, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 40. House Book 1 p.2; Notebook N p.22; Notebook N pp.43dL and following; M5L; Notebook M p.74; Notebook M2 p.33

Giustiniani (next Foscari) Dorsoduro 3232, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 40, next to the Palazzo Foscari at Dorsoduro 3246. Ruskin remarks that he is following popular custom in calling it Young Foscari, as at Notebook M p.67 and Notebook M p.123, or Younger Foscari, as in the Venetian Index. See also House Book 1 p.18; House Book 1 p.63L; House Book 2 p.31L (to which the heading, though not the text at House Book 2 p.31, refers). There are notes on the dating at Notebook M2 p.33, and a note, presumably about the same building, in the context of discussion of the development of circle moulding at Notebook M2 p.3.

Salizzada di St Lio Windows See Door Book p.47L, Notebook M2 p.69, and compare Works, 10.294. It is perhaps the house at Castello 5662, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 30.

See Notebook M p.102 for the ‘two superb palaces’ the Case degli Zane at S. Croce 2172 and the Palazzo Viaro-Zane. The reference at Notebook M2 p.6L is presumably to the Case degli Zane. See also House Book 2 pp.25L and 25.

That is apparently the house to which Ruskin refers at Notebook M p.69 and Notebook M p.74. There is a note with suggested dates at Notebook M p.74A. The Palazzo Pisani mentioned at Door Book p.41 is at Cannaregio 6104, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 30, on the Rio di Santa Marina and the Calle delle Erbe. The reference to Zanotto’s notes at Notebook M2 p.35 is to the Palazzo Pisani Gritti also on the Grand Canal but at San Marco 2467, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 51.

House at Campo San Polo For the Palazzo Soranzo at San Polo Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 28, see Notebook M p.207L; Notebook M2 p.34 (in the context of Zanotto’s list of houses); Bit Book pp.8L and 8.

Sanudo Sanudo ai Miracoli, also known as Soranzo-Van Axel, at Cannaregio 6099, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav.18, close to the Miracoli, is Ruskin’s House 72. See Notebook M p.123; Notebook M p.138; Notebook M2 pp.3L and 3; Notebook M2 p.34; Notebook M2 p.46; Notebook M2 p.67; Gothic Book p.33; House Book 1.Back free endpaper recto; House Book 2 p.27; Door Book p.32.
