At Notebook M2 p.33 Ruskin quotes Zanotto (1847) II.ii.422 suggesting that he attributed the Ca d’Oro to Calendario, the architect of the Ducal Palace. Zanotto’s point, like Ruskin’s at Notebook M p.42, seems to be that it is in the style ‘dell’autore del Palazzo Ducale’, that is, in his view, of Calendario. Zanotto, whose views on restoration were not the same as Ruskin’s, suggested that later restorations had restored it ‘alla prima sua integrità’.
