The reference at Notebook M p.217 is presumably to the door of the Casa Foscolo-Corner, Dorsoduro 2931, Nadali & Vianello (1999) Tav. 39, in the Campo Santa Margarita, variously spelled by Ruskin Margarita and Margherita, and at Notebook M p.130 perhaps Margerita. The door mentioned at Notebook M p.217 is presumably the door to which Ruskin refers at Notebook M p.130, and at Notebook M p.132 he refers to the door and the 4th Order windows of the house. In the index to M2 at Notebook M2 p.195L it is referred to as the door of Santa Margherita and the references given are St M[arks] Book p.89 and Bit Book p.38. See Works, 11.340 and the facing plate 11, which also illustrates the doorhead at the Ca’ Contarini Porta di Ferro.
See the footnote at Works, 11.281 which puts the ‘chessboard house’ in Campo Santa Margherita. This is to be distinguished from the S. M. Mater Domini Chessboard House, with which Ruskin sometimes appears to have confused it.
